Situated some 190-km far from Cairo and 45 kms
from Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel,
which connects mainland Egypt to Sinai, and is the second most important town on the Gulf
of Suez after El-Tor. However, there are a number of resorts growing up around the town,
and these have become popular retreats for residents of Cairo. Oyun Musa is located about
20 km north of Ras Sudr. It is believed that this is the springs of Moses. Moses is said
to have, upon the advice of God, thrown a special tree into the brackish water that made it
drinkable. Today the spring is still brackish, and there is no tree in sight, but seven of
the original 12 springs still exists. During the Egypt Expedition there were nine springs
still active. At one point during the 19th century, this, the largest of the Sinai Oases,
